FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We get it! There are are so many questions when exploring sport options for your child. Here are the answers to a few of the ones we get the most often......
DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO FUNDRAISE?
NO! Artistique recognizes that it is difficult to solicit families for fundraising with each activity your child participates in! The children registered in our preschool and recreational programs do not fundraise. Our competitive athletes may do some fundraising for special events.
WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR TO CLASS?
Children should dress in comfortable, tight fitting clothing with no zippers, buttons or snaps. Bare feet are best but some children prefer to wear socks or ballet style slippers during the early levels of gymnastics. Children may not wear dance skirts or a tutu to class as they pose a safety risk.
Children in the Cangym levels purple and higher, precompetitive and competitive athletes must wear body suits during training. They may also wear tight fitting shorts.
CAN MY CHILD WEAR JEWELERY?
For the safety of the children we ask that no jewellery, other than stud earrings be worn in the gym at any time. All facial piercings must be removed. NO EXCEPTIONS.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS OR CERTIFICATION DO THE COACHES HAVE?
At ARTISTIQUE, the coaches must be a minimum of Level 1 Trained before they are permitted to work under supervision of a coach in a class. All of our coaches working with children under the age of 6 are trained through Alberta Gymnastics Federation in Active Start, are minimum Level 1 trained and certified and are directly supervised by senior coaches. Our Pre-competitive and Competitive coaches, are Level 2 and Level 3 Certified through the National Coaching Certification Program in accordance with Alberta Gymnastics Federation regulation.
HOW MANY CHILDREN IN A CLASS?
Our programs are restricted to 8 children per coach in any class. We want to provide coaches and young athletes with a positive experience and from experience, we have learned that this is best done in smaller groups.
Our precompetitive and competitive programs also are based on a coach to athlete ratio and therefore athletes may experience the benefit of different coaches for different apparatus. At this level, coaches begin to specialize in skills and this benefits athletes by providing a more diverse set of progressions through the experience and practical knowledge of multiple coaches.
MY CHILD IS SICK OR WILL BE ABSENT. WHO DO I NOTIFY?
We always appreciate a text or email, even a phone call to alert us that your child may miss class. It helps us keep track of what they have missed and to accommodate them to catch up upon their return. Should your child be exhibiting any illness symptoms, please keep them at home. If a child shows up exhibiting symptoms, we will call you to return to pick up. Please call or text us at 403-358-8498 or email artistiquegym@gmail.com to let us know if your child is going to be absent. We appreciate it!!
WHAT IS THE RECREATIONAL INSURANCE FEE?
All athletes are insured through for accidental injury, including dental. The fee varies on an annual basis, reflective of insurance markets, and is based on the level of the athlete. The insurance fee is paid at registration on an annual basis. This ensures that everyone is protected in the gym. You may view the Insurance Bulletin at any time by asking our administrator for a club copy. This is a mandatory insurance collected by gymnastics clubs and paid to the Alberta Gymnastics Federation and to Gymnastics Canada. Children who are not insured, are not able to participate in any program.
HOW IS CLASS PLACEMENT DETERMINED?
Children will be placed in classes according to their skill level, age and previous experience. Recreational lasses are limited to 6 children per coach. All requests will be taken into consideration for placement, although, due to the criteria determining placement, this is not always possible. If you have any specific requests for placement please contact Dar, at 403-358-8498.
HOW DO COACHES ADDRESS MISBEHAVIOR?
Coaches are trained to handle excited children who may on occasion become over zealous or distracted. We are not however staffed to accommodate children with behavioral issues. The Head Coach may suggest a change in classes if coaches find that your child is not fitting into the program due to behaviors. Do not be offended. Your time and money is very valuable and we would like to see you get satisfaction for both. If your child has a behavioral condition and is not complying with coach requests, you may be asked to consider an alternative program. The safety of the children is our priority and coaching staff is unable to leave a class to deal with ongoing behaviors. It is important that all the children in a class are equal in instruction time and for coaches to be distracted with behavior, it is unsafe for other participants.
CAN I DROP OFF MY CHILD EARLY OR PICK UP LATE ON OCCASION?
Athletes are asked to please wait patiently in the foyer area for class to begin. In order to keep classes running smoothly and reduce the risk of injury of children running through the facility, coaches will gather up their classes at the foyer. We ask that you not leave your small children unattended as there is no supervision. Pick up your child on time. Children left waiting for rides while the next class is in session are not being supervised and are left alone. If you are going to be late, please make arrangements.
